4/45 The Great Gatsby F. Scott Fitzgerald

This portrait of a materialistic and hedonistic 20s is so evocative of the current American drive that I was so close to mistaking the parade of shallow and superficial characters for modern-day Daisy and Tom Buchanans.

Not entirely apathetic to this American dream drama, but not entirely concerned either, I set the plot laden with symbolisms aside to focus more on the prose. Which, needless to say, is amazing. Out loud, the words tasted nothing short of wonderful. For language alone, I am in love.

*I can’t help but think of Iron and Wine’s Flightless Bird, American Mouth as I type this. Oh, American dream, you fiend.
