A Long Way Down Nick Hornby
It’s English Sedaris writing a novel. It’s satirical, it’s dark, it’s supposed to be sad, but it isn’t. Instead, it’s light, and funny. Of course secondary to language or tone (which is unmistakably Hornby-esque in terms of humor and wit) is the plot, which I found quite sitcom-ish. But the characters are okay. Sometimes even lovable.
It’s funny (yes, again), but not quite to top my list. It is in fact one that you would call forgettable. But it did make me laugh, at such a difficult time at that, so endless props to Hornby.
The verdict: 6/10
